Product overview

We’ve proven more than once that decaf coffee doesn’t mean flavourless coffee. Colombia Decaf is a great option for those who can’t imagine life without coffee but prefer to control their caffeine intake.

Aroma: chocolate-covered prunes. Flavour notes: peach, grapefruit, and blueberry. The aftertaste is soft, with hints of milk chocolate.

This decaffeinated coffee comes from Colombia and is produced by Hulcafe. The decaffeination process uses ethyl acetate (EA), a compound typically derived from sugar cane. Since this compound naturally occurs in fruits, the method is often called the sugar cane decaffeination process.

Here’s how it works: green coffee beans are first soaked in water to open up their cellular structure. Ethyl acetate is then applied, selectively binding to caffeine molecules and removing them from the beans. Afterwards, the beans are thoroughly washed and slowly dried. This gentle, natural process preserves the coffee’s original flavour profile, resulting in a clean, sweet cup without off-notes that can appear with other decaffeination methods.

The sugar cane method is considered one of the most natural approaches to decaffeination, combining local resources with a delicate treatment of the beans. In the cup, this coffee offers pleasant sweetness with fruity and caramel notes — perfect for evening drinking or for anyone avoiding caffeine without sacrificing taste.

Fun fact: Colombia is one of the few countries where this type of decaffeination is done locally. The coffee doesn’t need to be exported for processing, which means fresher results and better quality control at every stage. Sounds good, right? :)
