Honduras MSM Rodriguez — an exotic burst of wild berries and fruits that landed in your cup straight from the mountain peaks. The first sip reveals mango, ripe melon, and a hint of wild dark gooseberry, all gently wrapped in a honeyed aftertaste.
The beans of this variety grow in the Montesillos region at an altitude of 1450–1600 meters, in the La Paz district, Matacano — near the namesake nature reserve. This is a mountainous area covered in dense jungle, known to locals as the “land of stone.” Loamy soils, a mild climate, and diffused sunlight allow the coffee to ripen slowly, enriching it with a more complex and intense flavor. The trees mostly grow in the shade of banana palms.
The natural processing method enhances the brightness and wild character of the flavor, while the Ihcafe 90 and Catuai varieties stand out particularly well in the conditions of Montesillos. By the way, this was the first region in the country to receive the official geographical designation Café de Marcala. In 2016, coffee from this region made it into the top 3% of Honduras' best coffees according to the Cup of Excellence.
